Looks like you have a virus or spyware on the computer. This is the reason you are getting so many popups. Reinstall the os and this will clean everything.

So I’m an idiot and I downloaded these two programs to help with my sluggish computer. Turns out that these programs are rogue programs that actually hurt my computer in the long run.

How do I remove them? I know I can’t just go to Add/Remove Programs to do it, so what is the full process to ridding these programs from my machine completely?

What’s the best free spyware blocker? I have malewarebytes, but I’d also like a program that actively checks and blocks spyware specifically.

Question by Carrie: Suddenly the previously blocked popups are popping up even when the blocker says it blocked them-why?
I have windows XP, which actively downloads/installs up dates (actually there’s one huge update that was from a few weeks ago that I haven’t done because it said to backup the computer first). The popup blocker says it blocked a popup, but the ad popup still pops up. It is not in the style of spyware or adware. why is this?

you just may have more than you bargained for, it’s probably a virus, or some type of spyware. You can always download lavasoft Adware 2008 and or Spybot, they work great for weaseling out those dumb spyware programs. I use both because both collect different results and both are for a great price, there free!. If your interested in downloading them you can go to download.com and type the names in the search bar. If you need a good anti-virus and also works excellent try Avast, also another free program you can try from download.com.
